Breast Cancer Awareness

At Waist Trainer we fully support the wellness and health of each woman, thus promoting self-care. October is the Pink month, as a global effort of breast cancer awareness, and of course, we join in the matter about this consciousness.

Recent years have seen a further gradual decline in female breast cancer incidence rates among women 50 years of age and older. Adding that breast cancer death rates have been declining since 1990, largely due to early detection, increased awareness, and improvements in treatments. That is why it is extremely important to inform yourself and follow the recommendations of a doctor.

EARLY DETECTION SAVES LIVES

Early detection means finding cancer before it spreads throughout the body. According to the American Cancer Society, when breast cancer is detected at an early stage the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%. This includes monthly check-ups, registering any abnormality, and on the other hand, scheduling a clinical mammography examination.

By performing monthly breast self-exams, you will be able to easily identify any change or abnormality in your breast.

Breast cancer cannot be prevented, but early detection provides the greatest possibility of successful treatment. By following these three steps, you will help increase your chance of detecting breast cancer early.

1. BREAST SELF-AWARENESS

Breast self-awareness can help you become familiar with how your breasts normally look and feel. Knowing this will help you identify any changes in your breasts that should be reported to your health care professional promptly.

2. WELL-WOMAN EXAM

The Well-Woman Exam is a great opportunity for you to discuss with your health care provider any questions or concerns you have regarding your breast health. For example, your doctor may help you determine the most appropriate personalized frequency for your early detection steps.

3. MAMMOGRAM

A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast. It is a safe way to detect cancerous tumors and other abnormal breast conditions. With a mammogram, your doctor can easily see if there is any abnormality that requires attention, in this way you will have a lower chance of dying from breast cancer than women who do not have screening mammograms.

IN THE SHOWER

IN FRONT OF A MIRROR

LYING DOWN

With the pads/flats of your 3 middle fingers, check the entire breast and armpit area pressing down with light, medium, and firm pressure.

Check both breasts each month feeling for any lump, thickening, hardened knot, or any other breast changes.

Step 1: Visually inspect your breasts with your arms at your sides.

Step 2: Raise your arms and look for the same changes.

Step 3: While you’re at the mirror, look for any signs of fluid coming out of one or both nipples (this could be a watery, milky, or yellow fluid or blood)

When lying down, the breast tissue spreads out evenly along the chest wall. Place a pillow under your right shoulder and your right arm behind your head.

Using your left hand, move the pads of your fingers around your right breast gently covering the entire breast area and armpit.

Use light, medium, and firm pressure. Squeeze the nipple; check for discharge and lumps. Repeat these steps for your left breast.

WHAT CAN I DO TO REDUCE MY RISK

OF BREAST CANCER?

Make your health a priority. A nutritious, low-fat diet (30 grams or less) with plenty of fruits and green and orange vegetables can help reduce the risk of developing breast cancer. A high-fat diet increases the risk because fat triggers estrogen production that can fuel tumor growth.

Although you cannot prevent cancer, healthy habits that can help reduce your risk are:

Maintain a healthy weight

Stay physically

active

Eat fruits and vegetables regularity

Do not

smoke

Limit alcohol consumption

There is a lot of misinformation out there. Make sure you know the facts about breast cancer. If you present any anomaly, do not forget to consult your doctor and always keep informed with truthful content.
